It is with great sadness we have to report the death this afternoon, in Warrington General Hospital, of Olive Behan. Olive had been in hospital for seven weeks and had undergone two major operations. In the end this proved too much for her. Olive was a long-standing player in the Quiz League, a member of the Warrington Sports Club Woodworms team, and several times winner of the Warrington Individual Trophy. I am sure that she will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was also a member of the Warrington Sports Club team that won BBC's Materteam in 1985, causing quite a stir, as this quote from the UK Gameshows website shows:
One member of the Warrington Sports Club team was a rather elderly lady called Olive. She became something of a star in the first series. The show's most memorable moment of all came in an open round, when Angela asked the question "Who is the lead singer of Motorhead?", to which Olive confidently replied "Lemmy"! She had done a lot of research into pop music, which was not otherwise a specialist subject.
Olive was also an excellent Scrabble player, being UK National Champion twice, in 1972 and 1975.
As yet we have no details regarding funeral arrangements but will advise all of you as soon as we have any information.
